DR Byen, constructed as part of the large-scale Ørestad urban planning project, is one of the most talked about building projects in recent times.
The new headquarters for Danmarks Radio basically consist of four segments – studios, editing, administration and a concert hall.
CSK provided the steel structure for the ‘indoor street’ which connects the four segments.
The structure consists of 1,000 tonnes of steel, with arcs running transverse to the passageway. The frame is covered with glass and spans 190 metres in length.
Part of the structure is suspended over a canal/path system, which gave the installation team from CSK quite a challenge during installation at a height of 30 metres. This difficulty was overcome by using the three largest cranes in Denmark to simultaneously lift the suspended part of the structure while it was installed.
