UN City, Campus 1 in Nordhavn, Copenhagen, was opened in 2015 as one of Scandinavia’s most sustainable buildings.
CSK supplied all the structural steel for the project, including the load-bearing beams in the centre of the building, the cantilever steel structures in the arms, the central staircase in the atrium, the five walkways, the glass railing, the skylight and all of the comprehensive metalwork in the building.
Better utilisation of the building space
The load-bearing structure of the UN building consists of vertical concrete columns and horizontal concrete decks. The columns and decks are held together using CSK’s specially developed composite beams, which save approx. 20 cm in ceiling height for each floor compared to traditional concrete beams.
This gave architects and engineers more volume to work with, without increasing the total height of the building.
Value-adding advice
CSK provided advice on the dimensions and design of the steel joins from the very outset. Our practical experience contributed to the solutions being chosen that are easiest to work with, as well as the most cost-effective during construction.
Efficient logistics
The UN building has been built on an artificial peninsula, with water on three sides. There was therefore very little space in which to work, and nowhere to store building materials. For this reason, CSK’s efficient planning and logistics were crucial to ensuring that both the schedule and budget were met.
