For passing motorists on the East Jutland motorway, the light towers of CASA Arena Horsens rise high above the landscape like glowing reptilian heads. The 37-metre-high towers illuminate the performances on the playing field – and building them was something of a performance in itself, with installation at a height of 16 metres.
The light towers, which CSK was responsible for, were assembled on the ground in front of the stadium. Electricians then completed all the electrical installations and glaziers installed the glass in the lights, before the towers were lifted into place.
The special structure is reminiscent of a long thin reptilian neck with the wide light unit on top like a head.
The lighting system at CASA Arena Horsens is 1,000 lux, compared to 550 lux in the previous system. Each tower weighs 25 tonnes, and a 300-tonne crane and a 450-tonne crane were required, in unison, to lift each of the four towers in place. The process required great precision, but was completed without complications.
In addition to the spectacular lighting system, CSK produced, delivered and installed the demanding steel roof girders in the stadium building. Roof girders for a project of this size always require special expertise, because the spans and structures are vast in a stadium.
